Ekstraksi Minyak Nilam dengan Menggunakan Metode Microwave Hydrodistillation dan Soxlet Extraction

Abstract


Tanaman nilam merupakan salah satu tanaman menghasil minyak atsiri yang cukup penting sebagai komoditi ekspor Indonesia dan menyumbang devisa sekitar 60% dari total ekspor minyak atsiri nasional. Indonesia merupakan pemasok minyak nilam terbesar dunia dengan kontribusi 90%. Meskipun Indonesia merupakan penghasil minyak nilam terbesar, namun kualitasnya masih fluktuasi bahkan cenderung rendah. Hal ini terjadi karena kualitas bahan baku yang kurang bagus atau penggunaan alat ekstraksi dan teknologi proses yang kurang optimal. Dalam memperoleh minyak nilam metode soxhlet extraction menghasilkan yield yang tinggi, namun membutuhkan waktu lama dan pelarut n-Hexane. Oleh karena itu dikembangkan metode microwave hydrodistillation dengan kelebihan yaitu waktu ekstraksi yang singkat dan tidak menggunakan pelarut n-Hexane. Pada metode soxhlet ini digunakan variabel daun nilam kering cacah dengan pelarut n-Hexane. Sedangkan pada metode MHD digunakan variabel bahan daun nilam kering cacah daya 450 W dan pelarut air. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diperolah yield minyak nilam dari metode soxhlet extraction mencapai 7,4741% dengan waktu ekstraksi 8 jam, sedangkan dengan metode microwave hydrodistillation diperoleh yield 5,8252% dengan waktu ekstraksi selama 3 jam. Selain itu, diketahui recovery dari metode microwave hydrodistillation sebesar 77,64%.
