Abstract
Pra Desain Pabrik Surfaktan Methyl Ester Sulfonate (MES) dari Waste Cooking Oil (WCO) akan penunjang berupa berupa karbon aktif, Metanol 99%, NaOH, NaHSO3, dan CaO. Metode produksi yang digunakan adalah kombinasi adsorpsi, transesterifikasi, dan sulfonasi. Mula-mula bahan baku WCO akan dilakukan pre-treatment filtrasi untuk menghilangkan impurities hasil penggorengan atau hasil olahan lainnya. Hasil dari filtrasi akan diadsorpsi dengan adsorben karbon aktif. Pengotor-pengotor akan teradsorpsi berupa zat warna yang pekat dan kandungan asam lemak bebas (FFA). WCO yang sudah bersih kemudian masuk reaktor transesterifikasi untuk mereaksikan trigliserida yang ada pada WCO dengan metanol. Trigliserida yang bereaksi dengan metanol akan menghasilkan metil ester, senyawa penyusun biodiesel. Metil ester keluaran reaktor transesterifikasi kemudian akan direaksikan dengan NaHSO3 untuk menghasilkan metil ester sulfonat (MES) pada reaktor sulfonasi. Sulfonasi menghasilkan prpduk samping disalt yang akan dimurnikan dengan metanol. Pemurnian dilakukan dengan kondisi hangat. Kemudian pH dari MES akan dinetralkan dengan NaOH. Pabrik ini memerlukan capital expenditure sebesar Rp 275,654,621,356 dan operating expenditure sebesar Rp 352,337,033,963. Melalui analisa ekonomi didapat NPV pabrik senilai Rp 266,123,279,080, IRR sebesar 33.43%, POT 10 tahun, dan BEP 35.31%. Berdasarkan analisa tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa pabrik MES ini layak untuk didirikan.
