Pemanfaatan Sampah Makanan Menjadi Bahan Bakar Alternatif dengan Metode Biodrying

Abstract
Biodrying adalah dekomposisi zat organik secara parsial dengan memanfaatkan panas yang dihasilkan oleh mikroorganisme dibantu aerasi. Zat organik dalam sampah makanan apabila tidak diolah, dapat menyebabkan pencemaran lingkungan. Padahal zat organik yang sebenarnya dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai energi atau SRF (solid recovery fuel). Penelitian diawali dengan penelitian pendahuluan untuk menentukan TDS (total dry solid). TDS berfungsi untuk menentukan debit udara. Setelah debit udara didapatkan, penelitian biodrying dimulai. Penelitian biodrying terdiri dari dua, pada penelitian pertama digunakan 4,8 kg sampel dengan debit udara 0,57 L/menit dan 1,13 L/menit. Penelitian kedua menggunakan 1,5 kg sampel dengan variasi debit udara 4 L/menit dan 7 L/menit. Temperatur tertinggi terdapat pada penelitian pertama yakni mencapai 40oC. Temperatur maksimum harusnya mencapai 60oC, sehingga dilanjutkan dengan penelitian kedua. Pada penelitian kedua suhu maksimum hanya mencapai 33oC, lebih rendah pada penelitian pertama. Pencapaian temperatur optimum dimaksudkan untuk membunuh bakteri patogen sehingga dihasilkan produk bahan bakar yang bersih. Berdasarkan waktu tinggal 14 hari, nilai kalor tertinggi material terdapat pada debit udara 7 L/menit didapatkan 4952 kal/gr sedangkan pada debit udara 4 L/menit didapatkan 4064 kal/gr.
