Penerapan Teknologi Membran untuk Mengolah Limbah Cair Industri Tahu (Studi Kasus: UKM Sari Bumi, Kabupaten Sumedang)

Abstract
Limbah cair industri tahu hingga saat ini masih sering dibuang ke badan air tanpa melalui proses pengolahan sebelumnya. Limbah cair ini mengandung zat organik (BOD, COD, TSS) yang sangat tinggi. Hal ini dapat mencemari badan air dan merusak biota perairan. IPAL (Instalasi Pengolahan Air Limbah) industri tahu pada umumnya menggunakan sistem pengolahan konvensional antara lain secara biologis yaitu aerobik, anaerobik, kombinasi aerob dan anaerob, gabungan fisik kimiawi dan fitoremediasi. Kekurangan sistem konvensional adalah membutuhkan lahan yang sangat luas. Saat ini penggunaan teknologi membran sedang populer dalam pengolahan air limbah baik domestik maupun industri. Teknologi membran memiliki keunggulan seperti rendah konsumsi energi, tidak membutuhkan tambahan bahan kimia dalam pengoperasiannya sehingga tidak menghasilkan limbah lainnya, pengoperasian dan perawatan cukup mudah, dan tidak membutuhkan lahan yang luas. Hasil kajian pada Industri Tahu Sari Bumi di Kabupaten Sumedang menunjukkan bahwa untuk mengolah limbah cair tahu menggunakan teknologi membran harus didahului dengan pra-pengolahan. Pada studi kasus ini digunakan opsi pra-pengolahan menggunakan biofiltrasi anaerobik dengan efisiensi mencapai 70%. Teknologi membran yang diterapkan sendiri menggunakan MBR dengan konfigurasi membran terendam menggunakan jenis ultrafiltrasi. Rangkaian pengolahan ini dapat memiliki efisiensi sampai 90%.
